Fairfield Podiatry would like to congratulate our very own David Hvalica who recently ticked off one of his bucket list items by completing the New York City Marathon.
While increasing his running training load, David began experiencing arch and heel pain, especially when getting out of bed in the morning.
Upon examination, it was evident that David's calf muscles were not strong enough to tolerate the increase in his training load. This appeared to be contributing to the overload of the plantar fascia.
By modifying his training load and completing a calf strengthening program, David was able to continue running and was pain-free in 7 weeks. Fortunately, getting on top of the pain enabled David to increase his strength and training load enough to allow him to complete this once in a lifetime experience. Well done David!
